Applying To University
With only a couple of months left to apply for university for 2022, many people still do not know where to start, so here we will talk you through the process to help ensure you apply by the deadlines and secure your place.
The easiest way to apply for university is through the UCAS website. Simply create an account using your email address, we recommend using an email address you access regularly so you do not miss any important updates.
After creating your account, you can select up to five different universities. If you are unsure which courses to choose you can take a free careers quiz which will help show which you would be best suited to. If you already know which course you would like to do, you can pick the course for five different universities.
You then fill out information such as your previous education and the grades you have achieved. UCAS is all done through points so to get into the course of your choice you have to ensure you have enough points. Points are added up depending on what grade you achieved at A level or equivalent.
When choosing a course, it will tell you how many points you need. If you do not have enough points you can apply for a foundation year which, when completed, you can go straight onto year 1. UCAS have a point calculator on the home page which you can put all your grades in, and it will give a score so you can see if you have enough.
After you have entered all your information a personal statement is required and UCAS have an amazing guide which gives you pointers to ensure your personal statement stays on track. There is a 4000-word limit, and we recommend getting your personal statement checked by a tutor or friends and family. Once you have used the guide you can then upload this with your university application.
The last thing to complete on your application is your reference, a tutor, schoolteacher, or employer can supply this. It’s best to have it done by your last tutor or employer as that will best represent your character. You must ask the person you have chosen to do your reference, then you upload their information into your application and UCAS will get in touch with them. Once your reference is done you can send off your application and await a response!
Once the universities contact you, they will either give you a conditional or unconditional offer. This means you will either get in no matter what grades you get if you are still waiting for grades, or, you have a place if you get your predicted grades. On results day you will receive an email letting you know whether you have your place or not.
