Continuing Through Lockdown

Being pretty much confined to your student accommodation as lockdown continues can be hard to get your head around. Here are a few handy tips to help you cope with what appears to be, the new ‘normal’ – ‘Continuing Through Lockdown’.

Be Kind

Lockdown, even with your best friends can occasionally lead to tempers fraying. Life at the minute is far from perfect for anyone, so instead of getting annoyed at whose turn is it to do the dishes or who used the last of the milk, take a breath and remember, a bit of kindness goes a long way. Why not spread some of that kindness and check in with other students you know who may not be dealing with lockdown too well, virtually of course.  A message of kindness could go a long way to helping someone who maybe struggling right now.

Relax

It is important to remember that your mental and physical wellbeing comes before anything else. You can only help others if you are in a good place mentally yourself. Do not pressure yourself to catch up or get ahead of the game when it comes to your studies. Set time aside for some rest and relaxation, some you time.  Read that book, watch a movie, take a walk. The work will still be there when you are done, but you will be in a better frame of mind to deal with it and will work more efficiently.

Be Social & Talk (Virtually)

Obviously meeting up with your friends is a no go right now, so take the time to make that facetime call to your friends and family or set up an online quiz using Zoom.

Get Organised

For anyone studying, you have a much better chance of getting that qualification if you are organised and tidy. Re-arrange your files and get a reading list sorted for those e-books you need to start making your way through. Clear the clutter and you will be able to concentrate far more easily.

Most of all, remember that lockdown will not last forever and we are all in this together. Being away from home, it would be all too easy to think you are on your own in this but that is not the case. We are in it together, and we will get through it together.
