Have you remembered Father’s Day this year?

If you haven’t, not to worry it can be hard to remember with exams and so much on your mind but just so you know, it’s Sunday the 16th of June.
If it has slipped your mind you may not have given too much thought about gifts or plans for the day so, in this blog we’re going to try to give you some inspiration. Don’t worry, as a student in Sheffield we know many of you won’t be on the greatest wage (if any), so our ideas have cost in mind too.

Gift Ideas

  • Chocolates & Alcohol
You can’t ever go wrong with chocolates and his favourite tipple? You don’t have to spend loads to show someone how much you appreciate everything they do for you. You can even add this small gift to anything else you choose to get as it just makes it seem like he’s receiving more gifts.
  • Framed Photograph
This must be one of the cheapest presents you could buy. You can buy a nice photo frame from places such as Wilko’s, B&M or Home Bargains. To print a photograph out you can visit somewhere like Boots who will print the photograph out for less than £1 depending on the size of the image you need.
  • Aftershave
You might be thinking that you can’t afford aftershave, but there are stores that have all the expensive aftershaves at cheap prices. Some of these stores include, Superdrug, Body Care and Home Bargains.
  • Personalised Mug
There are so many websites and shops nowadays that personalise everyday items. Display all your favourite memories with your dad on a mug. You can use sites such as Photobox, Vistaprint or Max Spielmann (one in Meadowhall) to personalise items.
  • Surprise Bag of Colour Schemed Toiletries
Many of you may be thinking that this might be something more appreciated by women on Mother’s Day, however it’s a great way of making it seem like you’re giving them a lot more than you spent! All you’d need to do is buy a fancy gift bag or box and fill it with body sprays, deodorant, face wash, body wash and body scrub etc. You would only have to spend around £10 for this idea.

Ideas for the Day

  • Dining Out
How about treating Dad to a lunch somewhere? Spending time with you is what he really wants and as a student you’ll know lots of places he’d love to go that won’t break the bank.
  • Bowling
Get the whole family together and head out for the day! What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than a bit of healthy competition between a dad and his kids? As bowling can be quite popular make sure that you book in advance so that you don’t show up on the day and can’t get in.
  • Visit Historic Places
Have a quieter day and visit some historic places! It would cost you less too. You could go to places such as Bolsover Castle, Hardwick Hall or Wentworth Woodhouse. You could even take a picnic if the weather turns out nice. If you have younger children in your family, you could think about a trip to Clumber Park with the football or take the bikes.
  • Cinema / Movie Night
There are new films coming out at the cinema all the time. If you and Dad don’t tend to go to the cinema very often then you might both enjoy the change. Or, if you can’t or don’t want to go to the cinema you could suggest a movie night, buy some snacks and drinks and have a nice night in.
  • Family Night
How about inviting Dad and the family to your student accommodation in Sheffield, order a take-away and some drinks and get some of the old board games out and maybe even a film to finish off your night.

We hope we’ve helped give you a few ideas as to what to do with Dad on Father’s Day but whatever you do make it special for him and have a great time.
