How to Prepare for University
Starting university can cause a range of emotions, excitement, apprehension, upset, happiness. However, one of the best ways to deal with these emotions is to create a plan and prepare for what you know is coming. Here are a few things that may help on how to prepare for University.
Budget!
This is one area that a lot of students don’t work out and then end up paying the price later. Everyone knows that when you’re a student, it’s unlikely that you’ll be living the life of luxury. So, by working out how much you need to spend on travel, food and rent you’re less likely to run out of money or worse… go hungry! When it comes to social events, try not to spend more than you can afford. There are ways of having fun without going over your agreed budget. Organise!
If you’re a naturally organised person they you may already have this area covered! However, if you’re not then it’s in your best interest to at least try. It’s a good idea to write a list of everything that you need and need to sort out. Remember to ensure that your accommodation and finances are all sorted out too. Think about all the equipment you will need such as stationary, text books and laptops. Depending on if you’re in student accommodation or not, you will also need to think of other things to take with you such as kitchenware, bedding and toiletries.
Talk!
Make the most of modern-day technology and use it for talking to your course mates. This is likely to make making friends easier and helps you work on your social skills. Remember that they’re all in the same boat too and will probably be feeling the same way that you are. Therefore, thinking of a conversation starter will be much simpler.
Read!
Once you have your text books, familiarise yourself with some of the content in there. There is nothing wrong with getting a head start or checking out what you’ll be learning. By doing so, you might even find it easier to understand some of the lectures.
Cook!
If you know how to already then great! But, if you’re staying away from home and don’t then you may find yourself in some trouble. While it’s easy enough to use the microwave and live off freezer food, eventually you’ll start to miss the homely comforts such as a good old Sunday roast. Lucky for you, we now have the internet and social media, you only have to search in on YouTube how to cook and you’ll be learning all sorts of tips!
