As a student, knowing you have an exam tomorrow can be a stressful time and whilst the best advice anyone can give you is to try not to stress too much, this is easier said than done.
Do not worry though, here are some helpful tips to help you try to feel slightly calmer for the day ahead.
- Try to Relax
We know it is not going to be that easy, but seriously it is the best and most important thing you can do. Nerves will sometimes get the better of you, but do not let them take over. Try meditation or yoga to chill out and drink less caffeine as that can add to your stress. Find distractions (good ones), things that are fun to help you keep calm. The last thing you want to be doing is reading and re-reading your notes and panicking that the information is not sinking in.
- Have a Good Meal
According to the BBC, good food can help improve exam results, so even if you are nervous, cooking a delicious meal filled with protein, carbs and veg will not only help to take your mind off the exam, but it could also help with your results. Try to eat at least 3 hours before bed though, as a heavy meal can interfere with your sleep.
- Try To Have a Normal Evening
Having a normal evening is also one of the best things you can do before an exam as occupying yourself with friends can help reduce the anxiety you may be feeling. Do not drink alcohol though, perhaps just spend time chilling out at your student accommodation doing whatever helps you relax. If you would rather be on your own, then just sit and watch your favourite tv programme.
- Get a Good Night’s Sleep
The last thing you want pre-exam, is to be so tired you cannot think straight, so getting a good night’s sleep is vitally important. Making sure you have had enough sleep will calm your general mood and help your concentration. Again, reducing your caffeine levels will help massively so try to not have any after 4pm. To really relax why not plan yourself a pamper night? Have a nice hot shower and try to limit your screen time.
- Prep your Notes
You will feel more organised if you get your notes prepared the night before and give them a read through. Reading your notes to make sure they are consolidated and easy to understand is totally different to a full-on revision session which is something that is NOT recommended. Realistically, you are not going to learn anything new the night before so putting extra pressure on yourself with last minute studying will just mean you will be overly tired and unable to concentrate properly.
