Lecturers being on strike can be a massive inconvenience. It will disrupt a lot of student’s studies as you may not have access to lecture slides, reading material and email contact with your lecturers. But rather than getting annoyed about it, let’s look at what we can do to stay focused and on top of revision during this time.
Stay Focused
It’s easy to think that just because lecturers are having time off, that you can sit back and relax until they’re back. However, that isn’t the case at all. It’s not good to get into that mind set either. You need to keep your mind on the grades you want and what you’re going to do to achieve them. Even though you might not be getting new material, there are other areas that you can work on to stay on track. If you have assignments, dissertations or exam prep, start doing it now. Three years might seem like a long time to be at Uni, but it really isn’t, especially when you take into consideration all of the holidays and weekends.
Use the Resources You DO Have
Yes, lecturers might not be there, however, you should still be able to visit the library. It might even do some good to get yourself on campus. You may feel more motivated when in the university environment. You should sign out all the books that you may need and put them to good use. If it helps you feel more motivated, start a study group with your friends. No doubt, you will have notes from previous lectures that you can refer back to. Take full advantage of them, surely you didn’t write them to just sit there?
Do That Bit Extra
Don’t wait for lecturers to go back to work before you pick up a textbook or start revision. You will have already had a lot of material and notes that you can revise from. If you have an idea of what topics you might be learning about next, research them and gather as much information you can. Seeing as you can only really get access to the library, take out all the books you need. Don’t stop there either, you can also search online for more resources.
Use Your Initiative
Only you know what you need to do. It’s completely your choice how you spend this time off. But you might as well be proactive. After all, it’s your grades that are on the line here. So, make the most of it and throw yourself into your studies.
