Time For A Spring Clean?
After the winter months you may find that your student accommodation is starting to look dull and messy, its only normal after Christmas and being stuck inside more. So why not get organised and start your spring clean early? Here are a few tips to get you started.
When cleaning, most people want to get it done as fast as possible as it’s not always an enjoyable task so why not put some of your favourite songs on and get in a good mood right from the start.
The first step should always be to open your windows and allow fresh air to circulate around your accommodation. This will immediately make it feel fresher and you didn’t do anything yet! Next, get rid of all the rubbish lying around and put all your things away, this will give you a tidy starting point.
As students’ kitchens are normally communal, these can be the messiest rooms. Start here so you can get the worst over and done with. If you do live with other people, why not tackle it together so it’s quicker?
Empty your fridge and give it a good clean out as you don’t want any old food taking space up and causing a smell, wipe out to keep it smelling fresh. If you have different cupboards for plates and mugs etc. make sure they clean and correctly put away.
Give the hob and oven a good clean as having foods and oils building up is not a good idea. Not only will the oven start to smell, but it will also be harder to clean in the long run if you let it build up. Same with the inside of your microwave.
Once you have your kitchen clean and everything is organise, move onto your personal items.
It’s always good to look at what you have and whether you still need it, especially with clothes. So, give them a good sort out and donate whatever you don’t want any more to the many charity shops in Sheffield.
Have a good look through your textbooks too as they use up a lot of space and some might not be needed anymore if you have finished some modules. You could ask around as other students could make good use of them.
Maybe it’s time for some new bedding to really get that spring feeling? Many shops such as Primark offer reasonably priced bedding in all colours and designs.
And finally, after your accommodation is feeling clean and fresh why not add some nice spring flowers such as tulips or daffodils?
