Tips Every Student Needs
Starting university can be a little daunting especially if you are moving away from home for the first time so here are some tips on how to excel at university life.
First, get organised. This is one of the simplest but most important things you can do to help yourself. University is very different to school and college where you are constantly reminded of deadlines. At university you’re solely responsible for your schedule and getting work in on time. Writing down a list of what needs completing and when for is so important.
Do not try to multitask, if you have certain pieces of work due, set times to finish each piece otherwise you will end up with too much to do all at once and it won’t be your best work. Also try not to work at the same time as having your friends over, you will never be able to concentrate fully if you do this.
Manage your study space, ensure you have a quiet and peaceful place to work, for some people that is the library whereas others enjoy being in their own space at home. Find this space and use it wisely, you will really find yourself becoming more productive.
Ensure you take notes. As we said earlier, university is very different from college or school so in your lectures take notes of important information which could be useful in the long run. You don’t even necessarily need pen and paper; you can add notes to your phone or tablet.
Set a schedule for your university work and your social life, write down which days you will focus on work and how long for, so you always know when you are working compared to socialising. This will also ensure you’re working hard but still having fun! Also, remember to take regular breaks just to recharge your batteries.
