Valentine’s Day on a Budget – It’s that time of year again and whilst we know being thrifty on Valentine’s Day may not be your ideal choice, we’re in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis and those student loans only go so far, right? So, we’ve put together 6 ideas that could help you thoroughly enjoy your special day without breaking the bank.

1 – Date Night at Home (Cook Dinner Together)
If you already have food in at home, there’s nothing cheaper than both of you cooking a romantic meal together and enjoying it over your preferred tipple. Who needs fancy expensive restaurants when you can cook your favourite food right there in your PJs then snuggle down on the sofa.

2 – A Night at the Museum
Seeing as Sheffield has some terrific museums it would be such a shame if you didn’t visit at least one of them during your time here and why not on Valentine’s Day?

Be entertained for hours with archeological treasures, zoological wonders, the Industrial Revolution, Sheffield’s steel and cutlery industries, and fascinating art to name just a few of the subjects that await you.

Better still, they’re FREE entry!

3 – A Romantic Stroll in the Park
February may not be the warmest of months but as the old saying goes: ‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’. So, get yourselves wrapped up and explore one of Sheffield’s 80+ parks. Take in the fresh crisp February air as you stroll arm in arm through some of the best parks and woodlands in the UK. Admission to most is free so it really won’t break the bank and you’ll benefit from some light exercise and lots of relaxing peace and quiet.

4 – Do the Thrift Store Challenge

Now here’s something a bit different that could be lots of fun. Why not combine it with number 1 above? Set a budget, say £10 each and challenge each other to buy the ingredients from your local discount supermarket to make the most romantic Valentine’s meal. The great thing here is the cheaper you can set your budget, the better.

5 – Have a Movie/Music Night

Something that costs little if nothing at all, a cosy night in watching a movie and/or listening to music. Why not buy a cheap bottle of plonk and a box of chocolates then both snuggle up on the sofa under your blanket and binge watch some of your favourite movies or listen to some great tracks?

6 – Single? No problem
Don’t feel left out on Valentine’s Day. Grab your friends and head on down to the Leadmill this year and experience a 70’s music extravaganza.  Tickets are just £6.60 and with 80p Vodka mixers, £1.50 Doubles, and £2 J-Bombs it doesn’t need to be an expensive night, plus they serve a full range of non-alcoholic drinks too.

With hits from ABBA, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Bowie, Cher, Elton John, Boney M, Blondie, and many more you’re in for a great night.
