Cleaning During A Pandemic
As a student, cleaning is probably going to be the last thing you want to do, but in the middle of a pandemic and living with others, it is a necessity. It will help to keep not only you safe but also those around you.
So here are a few tips on cleaning your student accommodation, and you, safe and clean.
Preparation is key!
As with anything, making sure you are properly prepared will make the job not only quicker but also easier. Having a basket or bucket you can carry around containing all your cleaning equipment from room to room will make the job so much easier.
Essentials you will need are:
- Microfibre cloths
- Rubber gloves
- All-purpose cleaner
- Glass cleaner
- Antibacterial spray or wipes
- Dustpan and brush
- Duster
- Polish
- Bleach
You will also need a good vacuum cleaner and a mop and bucket.
Collect your Rubbish!
You are all prepped and ready to go, so you need to get rid of your rubbish and unused items from every room before you can start cleaning. Make sure you are doing your bit for the environment and recycle those plastic and glass bottles, tins, and paper.
Disinfect!
Being in the middle of a pandemic means disinfecting is a necessity now more than ever. The kitchen must be disinfected, all surfaces, cupboard doors, handles and appliance fronts. Make sure all rooms are done, disinfecting hard surfaces and overly handled places – door handles, light switches and yes even the toilet flush. You can use spray and cloths or wipes that contain disinfectant.
Dust and Vacuum
When cleaning your property make sure you dust in each room, making sure all furniture, photo frames, books and shelves are all dusted getting into every nook and cranny.
A duster and polish or just a damp cloth will pick up the dust. You can now vacuum all the rooms and remember to vacuum slowly – disinfect the vacuum after using it.
Windows and Glass
You can make your own glass cleaner or use a shop bought spray, using a microfibre cloth or kitchen roll to clean the glass thoroughly.
Sweep Before Mopping
To remove any excess dirt from your hard floors, make sure you sweep up before mopping. Your mop bucket should be filled with disinfectant or bleach and you should always start with the corner furthest away in the room moving backwards out of the room.
Bathrooms
You should always have separate cleaning items for your bathroom and should always be cleaned with bacteria killing detergents (bleach). Wipe everything down with diluted bleach and make sure you are putting bleach down the toilet. Once all is clean you can now mop the floor.
Hopefully, the tips above will help you in keeping a clean, dust-free house, making you and your house mates feel slightly safer knowing you are keeping bacteria and viruses away.
