Great Student Areas in Sheffield

With  Sheffield being the fifth largest city in the UK with two of the top universities it’s no wonder it’s a top destination for students. And whilst there’s no doubt that students come here for the outstanding education that both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University provide, they also flock to Sheffield because it’s a city bursting with life and fun things to so.

Having provided student accommodation in Sheffield for over 40 years we certainly know the best areas for student accommodation but we’re also very familiar with the best places to shop, eat and drink and we’ve listed a few here for you.

Ecclesall Road

Some of our student accommodation is in this area and many students from both universities live on or near to this thriving spot. Ecclesall Road is great for students who love to go out in the day as much as they love going out at night. Home to an array of gorgeous coffee shops, fashion boutiques and bars – Ecclesall Rd has cemented its position as one of Sheffield top trendy areas. One of things it really stands out for is the mouth-watering food options available including Greek, Indian, Italian, and Thai to mention just a few. With Sharrow Vale Road (another fantastic spot for amazing eateries) just around the corner you’ll struggle to find another student area in Sheffield that provides as much food choice as the Ecclesall Road area does.

Hunters Bar

Another area in Sheffield that has lots to offer is Hunters Bar. From here you still have easy access to other popular areas like Ecclesall Road and Sharrow Vale Road mentioned above as well as the city centre. Hunters Bar is a particularly artistic part of the city and shares a lot of the trendy qualities you can find on Ecclesall Road. It is a creative hub – with lovely craft cafés along with some gorgeous cake and coffee shops. It also has several trendy hair salons and barbers’ shops. Hunters Bar begins at Endcliffe Park, a very popular spot for students from both universities. The park host to a wealth of activities and is beautiful throughout all seasons. Overall, Hunters Bar is a fantastic choice for students who want to be close to the heart of Sheffield with plenty going on but not right in the city centre.

Broomhill

Broomhill is very close to the University of Sheffield’s halls of residence and is great for those looking for an area that gives them the best of both the traditional and modern. With a great selection of good-sized supermarkets, you’re sure to find everything you need right on your doorstep. You won’t have to look hard to find plenty of coffee shops to suit a range of budgets and tastes either. For those who like to spend time in a good pub, there is a great choice of public houses in Broomhill that always draw in a great student crowd. There are few student areas in Sheffield that compare to Broomhill for its fast-food options. A popular stop for students on their way home from a night out, you never have to wait too long for fast food cuisine in Broomhill. All this right on your doorstep, how practical is that?

Crookes

Crookes is particularly popular with University of Sheffield students looking for accommodation because the University gym, libraries and Student Union are all just a stones throw away. The area is also growing increasingly popular with Sheffield Hallam students too and is home to an array of small, traditional pubs and lovely popular cafes. Popular for its community feel with locally run shops full of locally sourced and locally made produce you are guaranteed to feel at home in no time. Crookes is also full of iconic nature spots like Bole Hill Park, Crookes Valley Park, and the Ponderosa – meaning it is often home to small festivals and there is always an impressive spot for a nature walk. We can’t forget to mention the strong calves you certainly will gain while living in Crookes. They don’t say Sheffield was built on seven hills for nothing.
