Living on a student loan can be difficult and will no doubt leave you pretty cash strapped so, if you haven’t already got a part time job you might want to start thinking about it.
The hardest part of securing any job is getting through the interview. Not to add any pressure, but this is your opportunity to convince an employer that you are going to be an asset to their company. Ultimately, you’ll also need to go through the interview process after you graduate too so here are a few tips that will hopefully help you.
Body Language
Your body language can say a lot about what you are thinking and who you are as a person. If you’re sat in a slouched position then it portrays that you might be lazy, uninterested or bored which isn’t a good first impression to make. You want to appear confident when going into your interview. The best way to appear confident, even if you aren’t, is to sit up straight, keep smiling, look interested and don’t fiddle with your hands.
Dress Appropriately
The last thing you want to do is to turn up under, or over-dressed so you need to think about what is appropriate. One idea would be to go into the place where you are applying to work and check out what the current employees are wearing.
Prepare Questions
This is the one thing that many people forget to do. Asking the interviewer questions tells them you’re interested in the job. A few questions to ask if you’re struggling:
- What would my day-to-day responsibilities be?
- What is the culture of the company?
- Where do you think the company is heading in the next 5 years?
- What other opportunities could this current position lead to?
- What do you like best about the company?
Research
Researching the company that you may be working for is a great idea. The most common question that is sprung on interviewees is ‘What do you know about this company?’. So, it would be great if you knew something about their business. By researching the organisation, you automatically appear interested, plus it shows you know how to use your initiative.
Print Out Directions
The last thing that you want is to be unsure of where exactly it is you need to be for your interview and arrive late because of it. You should print out directions and give yourself plenty of time to get there. To really make sure you know where you’re going you could go and find the place before your actual interview date.
