Quirky things to do in Sheffield

Getting bored of doing the same old things around Sheffield? Well, you might be interested to know that Sheffield has many quirky and hidden gems that you and your friends can enjoy.

One of these is Holly Hagg Community Farm, a non-profit organisation aimed at giving a comfortable life to its animals. Nothing quirky about that you might think until you learn that this is where you can go on a guided alpaca trek amidst Sheffield’s beautiful Rivelin Valley. As these treks are popular, make sure you book well in advance.

Holly Hagg Community Farm is located at Long Lane, off Stephen Hill/Black Lane, Crosspool, Sheffield S10 5AG. Alpaca treks take place on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11am-1:30pm and tickets range from £30-£35.

You can check their website for pictures of each alpaca you can walk with and further information on the treks themselves.

Another hidden gem in Sheffield is Our Cow Molly at Cliffe House Farm. Here you will find delicious dairy ice cream which is made right there on the farm. It is open 11am to 5pm Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, although they also have a vending machine that is open every day from 8am to 8pm! Located at the vending machine is one of the bears of Sheffield so ensure you get a quick picture with him whilst you’re visiting.

They offer a range of amazing flavours such as raspberry ripple, Irish cream, snickers, and wild cherry cheesecake, alongside classic flavours such as chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla.

The farm is located at Cliffe House Farm, Hill Top Road, Dungworth, Sheffield S6 6GW and their website includes lots of information about their products, so be sure to check it out before visiting.

Somewhere you may not have thought about visiting is Kelham Island Museum, but it really is a MUST whilst you’re living and studying in Sheffield. Here you can find out all about Sheffield’s fascinating history, from the Victorian era all the way to present day. You’ll also learn why Sheffield is nicknamed ‘Steel City’. One bonus is entry is free so it’s great for a day out if money is tight. It is located at Alma Street, Sheffield S3 8SA.

Just a few minutes from Kelham Island is another quirky activity you could get involved in, Viking axe throwing! It’s like playing darts, but with axes! An ideal place to start your night and great fun for stag/hen parties, celebrations, or team bonding sessions.

Battle Axe Sheffield is located at The Paint Factory, 163 Rutland Road, Sheffield S3 9PT and you can get more info on their website.

Kelham island is also home to many bars and restaurants, great for drinks or dinner after a day at the museum or axe throwing.
