We’ve all heard about the effects of global warming and each day there are more and more people wanting to help make a difference.

Last week, Sheffield TUC, along with Sheffield Climate Alliance, Campaign Against Climate Change and XR Sheffield, organised a Global Warming Strike in Sheffield. Ever since February, they have been taking to the streets to gain the attention of people in higher authority such as the government to help speed up the steps necessary to tackle the climate crisis and even though their movement is getting stronger there’s so much more to be done.

The turnout was amazing, the streets filled as thousands of people took part. Some people even went down on their lunch break. The event began at 11am on Devonshire Green, and many turned up with homemade banners to show their support for the cause. The march started at midday and took a route around Sheffield that lasted for roughly an hour.

Even Lush closed their shop that morning to take part in the strike and reopened at 1pm.

On the steps of Sheffield Town Hall, a rally took place in the afternoon so that the voices of many students and colleges could be heard. Stalls were set up by the Socialist Workers Party, The Green Party, Hope for the Future, Sheffield Friends of The Earth and many more. The event finished at 7pm, followed by a ticket-only after party at DINA.
