When you’ve been in education for what feels like an age, learning can seem boring, but there are ways to make learning fun again which will help you retain information.

  1. Make it Colourful
Studies have shown that we retain information better when written in colour. When taking notes try writing in colour and highlight the text you have already written. It will make the important facts stand out helping you to remember.
  2. Mix Up Your Methods
Rather than writing in lists and full sentences, try creating mind maps. You can use colour and group all the necessary information together. This also makes learning seem a bit more fun than sat reading and writing, again helping you remember information. You can Google ‘creating mind maps’ for info how to create them.
  3. Work with Friends
Working on your own can seem lonely and it then becomes easy to get distracted. Invite one of your friends around to your student accommodation, who you know you work well with, to stay with you so that you can help one another.
  4. Make Snacks
Eating dark chocolate improves blood flow to the brain which will help you retain the information. Make a fruit salad to go along with your dark chocolate as fruit is also a key food to helping you revise.
  5. Repeat
Repeating certain facts 3 or 4 times helps them stay in your head. Try writing it down to begin with then saying it out loud and then read it in your head.
  6. Listen to Music
When I say listen to music, I don’t mean chart music. Listen to classical music, this will help you feel relaxed and reduce stress. If you listen to the type of music that you listen to on a regular basis then the chances are, you’ll end up singing along to them and forget all about your revision.
