Ways To Make Your Student Accommodation Feel Like Home

Moving into your new student accommodation in Sheffield could feel a little daunting especially if you’re sharing with people you don’t yet know. A great way to help you feel more relaxed and settled is if you make your student accommodation feel more like home and below are a few tips to help you.

Lighting
If you had a table lamp in your bedroom at home, taking it with you to your student accommodation will help give a feeling of comfort and familiarity. If you don’t have or need a table lamp, adding some fairy lights could give your room that cosy feeling you’re looking for. They don’t have to cost the earth as they can be bought second hand from charity shops or high street stores such as Home Bargains, Wilko’s and B&M.

New Bedding & Towels
There’s no better feeling than climbing into bed with fresh bedding, especially new bedding if you can afford it. For great bargains check out discount  stores like those previously mentioned and also Primark and The Range too. If you’re wanting to get everything all in one place Sheffield has a terrific Ikea.

Cosy Accessories
If your budget will run to it get yourself some cushions and a blanket for your bed and if there is enough room maybe a small rug?

Photographs
It’s perfectly natural to feel homesick when you first start Uni so pop some photographs of family and friends around your room. It’s best not to damage walls with nails, hooks, or blue tack and as most student accommodation has desks, chests of drawers or bedside tables those are the best places to put your photos. If you don’t have frames, again, you don’t have to spend a lot, they are very cheap from the discount stores mentioned above.

Fragrance Your Room
Giving your room a pleasant fragrance is one of the best things you can do to make it feel relaxing and if you did that at home use the same fragrance to give your student accommodation that homely feeling. Potpourri, air fresheners and warm scented waxes or oils are all good ideas and don’t cost too much either.

Re-arrange Your Furniture
Don’t feel that just because your furniture is set out the way it is that it must remain that way. If you feel like your room isn’t making the best use of the space, move it around – within reason of course. If you have the space, moving the desk into a separate area of the room can give the illusion that of two separate rooms, one to relax and one to study. Obviously check first that your landlord is OK with this as they’ll need to make sure you don’t block fire exits etc.

We hope that you have found these few tips helpful and if you’re a student in Sheffield or coming here soon please don’t hesitate to contact us to arrange your student accommodation, we’re here to help.
