What Does Sheffield Have to Offer?

Once you’ve settled into your student accommodation in Sheffield you might want to take your exploring a step further so here’s our mini guide to some of the go-to places you might want to visit in the city.

Sheffield has masses to offer, from great shopping centres like Meadowhall to its beautiful relaxing parks so if you’re looking for places to visit or maybe just to explore Sheffield a little more, keep reading.

One place that really is a must in Sheffield is Meadowhall. Its vast variety of shops and large food court set out on 2 floors is sure to keep you busy for hours. It is also home to Vue Cinema where you can chill watching a movie whilst enjoying a refreshing Tango Ice Blast, a student’s dream. The huge food court has many of your favourites such as TGI’S Fridays, Frankie and Benny’s, Wagamama’s and of course lots of fast-food outlets such as McDonald’s. Shops include a large Primark, Urban Outfitters, H&M, JD Sports and New Look. In fact, Meadowhall has over 250 stores to choose from!

After a busy day shopping, you may be looking for somewhere a little more relaxing and the good news is Sheffield has almost 100 beautiful parks and gardens to visit. In fact, Sheffield actually has more trees per person than any other city in Europe! One of the most beautiful is Sheffield Botanical Gardens, located on Clarkehouse Road, Broomhill. Its beautiful flowers and eye-catching plants make for an extremely relaxing walk and the orangery has all kinds of exotic and interesting tropical plants. Sheffield Botanical Gardens is a peaceful place to catch up with friends for a coffee and there are many benches located around the gardens so there’s always a place to sit and catch up. Other great parks include Graves Park, Millhouses Park, Weston Park and Hillsborough Park & Walled Garden to name but a few.

If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy your evening, Sheffield is home to some great theatres. With the Crucible and the Lyceum being close together it’s hard to choose which one to visit. The Crucible is a much more intimate setting with the stage and seats being in a hexagonal arrangement, so every seat is positioned great. It’s been home to many popular shows such as ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ and ‘Everyone Is Talking About Jaimie’ which has now been made into a film and is on the West End of London. The Lyceum is a much more traditional theatre with the seats covering one side and the stage being at the front. It also has different types of shows to view such as ballets around Christmas as well as everyone’s favourite Pantomimes. These theatres are at the heart of the city, with many bars and restaurants nearby for a night filled with excitement.

As many of you will already know, dessert shops have become extremely popular these past couple of years and Sheffield has many available for you and your friends to enjoy. One of the most popular is Sundaes Gelato, located at 262 Glossop Rd. It has a wide range of delicious milkshakes, cookies, and ice cream available. Its colourful decor makes for fab pictures too!

A few other dessert shops in Sheffield are Rassams Creamery, Sweet Treats Sheffield, Dessert Parlour and Treat Squad.

Another thing to look for in Sheffield is the fascinating street art where you can get some great pics for your social media accounts. The artwork is spread all around Sheffield especially down alley ways and on the sides of large buildings so get yourself out there as it’s really something you don’t want to miss.
