What To Do In Sheffield This Christmas
With last year’s Christmas being written off and many families not having had the gatherings they would have liked; this year has a lot of making up to do!
These are a number of events and activities around Sheffield that you can take part in to get into the Christmas spirit.
Sheffield really does have something for everyone from the Christmas market and lights to Santa’s grotto.
Talking of Sheffield Christmas market, here are a few more details. It opens on the 15th of November, runs until December 24th, and promises to delight you with its iconic big wheel as well as ample food and drink stalls. This year’s market will be located across Fargate, Townhall Square and The Peace Gardens, you can expect to be wowed with alcohol beverages, home baked goods and all the Christmas spirit you could ever wish for! It really is an event you don’t want to miss and with it being there for over a month there’s no excuse not to visit at least once.
Another festive event Sheffield offers is ice skating at Ice Sheffield. Open Monday to Sunday it has a range of sessions that you can attend but for university students we would recommend going mid-week as weekends are family sessions and may be a lot busier. You can either hire or take your own skates and there is a cafe located next to the rink if you fancy some drinks or snacks after your session is finished.
You can also attend classes at Ice Sheffield to further your skating skills and any age can attend in the different groups. It is located 23 Coleridge Road Sheffield, and can be accessed via the tram, leaving the tram at the Olympic Legacy stop from which it is just a short 5-minute walk away.
If you are looking for some classic Christmas entertainment how about a pantomime at the Lyceum Theatre? This year they’re running Sleeping Beauty. The opening night is December the 3rd running until the 4th of January so plenty of time to book your tickets. With Janine Duvitsk (Jacqueline in ITV’s hit comedy Benidorm) it is sure to be a show you won’t want to miss. The show is preformed throughout the day, every day.
If Sleeping Beauty isn’t your cup of tea how about Snow White at the Sheffield City Hall? This event has a shorter run time of the 27th of December to the 9th of January 2022. It is being performed by Manor Operatic Society; one of the largest amateur theatre groups in the UK with an impressive 50 cast members.
