It’s perfectly natural for students to worry about starting university. It’s a totally new environment that’s different to what you’re used to. Most of you will be moving away from your family and friends which is hard enough on its own but add a new city into the equation and you could start to feel a little out of your depth.

Money

Unfortunately, money dictates a lot of what we do, and many students worry about whether they’ll be able to afford student accommodation, food, travel costs and maintain a social life. Student loans don’t usually cover all of your costs which is why a lot of students get part time jobs. You might think that it’s impossible to manage your studies and a part time job, but if thousands of others are doing it, why can’t you? You’ll soon find your routine and incorporate both into your week.

Study

It’s no secret that Uni means lots of studying and it’s easy to think there aren’t enough hours in a day. However, it’s down to you how much time and effort you put into your studies. If you’re putting in a lot of studying and still feel you might not achieve the grades you want, be sure to ask lecturers and friends early on, they’ll be able to help.

Leaving Home

We all have to do it at some time right? Studying away from home can actually be a positive thing. It can give you the independence you need. You’ll be learning lots about yourself too, as well as making new friends and exploring a new city. Your family and friends are only a call away if you start to feel homesick.

Making Friends

Many students fear that they won’t make any friends, but everyone finds someone they click with. Freshers is there to help you and no matter whether you end up in student halls or shared student accommodation, you’ll end up making new friends one way or another.

There are many things that you could worry about when starting university but as is often the case, the fear turns out to be much worse than the reality. So, just embrace it and enjoy your university experience!
