What May Have Changed at Uni

While the world is still adapting to our ‘new normal’ all companies are working really hard to ensure that they have the appropriate measures in place to support the government guidelines. Currently, timetables are uncompleted because universities are trying to determine whether or not they have the teaching capacity to cater for all students needs. Not only this but see how many new students they can now accept after the national results scandal.

You know that when you get back to university things are not going to be the same. All universities are currently working to get the right measurements in place to keep everyone safe. Some universities will be different to others but let’s take a look at what may have changed when you get back.

  • Gaps

Universities are looking into having two – four metre gaps between students and the academic when in lectures. This is obviously to maintain the social distancing rules. Also, while inside a lecture it may be that the academic has to wear a face shield but you might not have to. This is because many universities see it unfair to have to sit through a long lecture without being able to breath properly which wouldn’t be any good for your concentration.

  • Face Masks

When you’re on campus, you may have to wear a face mask everywhere you go (but maybe not in some lectures). You may be used to this by now though as we’ve had some time to get used to them. If you don’t already own a face mask then some universities are willing to provide them for staff and students.

  • One Way

Keep in mind that one-way systems may be put into place. This will be to avoid any face to face contact as you’ll all be walking in the same direction. You may find that arrows are on the floor or signs directing you of which way to go. Although this may be a pain at times, remember that it’s to keep everyone safe.

  • Closed

Eating outlets might be shut for a period of time. It might be that not all of them are closed but the main ones that attract more people could be. So, if this is the case and you’re on campus all day, don’t forget to bring your own food.

  • Smaller Classes

Lectures won’t be like they used to be either. Fewer people will be able to attend face to face lectures to help minimize the spread of the virus. You will more than likely have a mix of blended learning where some lectures you have to physically attend and the rest are online. Some of you have had the online lectures throughout lockdown and although they might not be as convenient try to be patient with them as this is new to all of us. The case is most likely to be that you will have less contact time on campus due to blended learning.

Keep in mind that all these things mentioned above may not be exactly what is going to happen at your universities but these could very well be the changes that universities are going to make. We wish you all the best adapting to the change at university this year and hope you all stay safe.
