Over the past few months, all we seem to have heard about is, you have guessed it… COVID-19. We are all desperate for it to go away, however we have to ensure we are all taking the right precautions. So, let’s take a look at how to stay safe whilst we are in shared accommodation.

When you are sharing accommodation, you face more challenges than most when it comes to social distancing and hygiene. While you may be doing everything you can to keep yourself and others safe, be mindful that other people under your roof might not be. If this is the case, you need to be extra careful.

  • Washing Hands

We do not really need to tell you about this one. You have probably heard and read it a thousand times over the past few months. But in all seriousness, you should remember to wash your hands as often as you can. Especially, when you are back home after an outing. When you leave the house, it is no longer just your keys, phone, and purse/wallet to remember but also your hand gel and face mask.

If you can help it, try not to all dry your hands on the same towel either.

  • Do not Share

In this case, sharing isn’t caring. You should avoid sharing the same household items. If you can, you should all have your own towels, dishes, and bedding.

  • Clean Everything

After using each work surface, clean it. Use disinfectant spray on seating and surfaces and wipe over regularly. Once you have used the bathroom, give everything a clean down. Do not leave any surface unclean, including door handles. Keep windows open so that each room gets the ventilation that it needs.

  • Keep Your Distance

Even though this is something that you should have been doing all the way through, remember to keep your distance from each other while at home. You may have all gone to different places during the day, so you cannot be 100% sure that you are free from the virus. Remain at least 1 metre away from one another, 2 metres if you can.

We hope that you are all staying safe. For more details about Sheffield student accommodation, please contact us today.
